Spiritual Growth

The best thing you can do to obtain spiritual growth is to get to know Jesus. How do I do that, you may ask? In any relationship, in order for it to grow, you must spend intimate time with that person. The same is true with our relationship with Jesus. You must fellowship with Him daily so that you can know His will and recognize His voice. You must give Him the time and effort that's needed to develop a love relationship with Him. That's what he wants, that's what we must do.

In Mark 13:30, Jesus says "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment". The one thing that God wants from you is for you to love Him with all your being. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Do you want to hear God speaking to you? Do you want to recognize His voice? A personal relationship with God is the key. You come to know His voice as you spend more and more time with Him. John 10:2-4, 14 ... the sheep follow Him, for they know His voice ... I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep and am known of mine. Not only do you know His voice, but He knows yours too.

One way to spend quality time with the Lord is through prayer. Prayer is not just a religious activity you go through when you are in need of something or at meal time. Prayer is a two way communication with God. Spend intimate time alone with our Lord Jesus Christ, praising Him, loving Him, worshipping Him, and thanking Him for all that He has done in your life and in the lives of those around you. Talk to Him about your cares and concerns. He is a good listener and will never let you down.

Do you really want to know about God? Then read your Bible. In John 1:1, IN THE Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Bible is the Book of Life. You should not only read it, but you should study it, memorize it, meditate it, and obey it. It is filled with spiritual food for your soul. Hunger for His Word, hunger for His Holiness, hunger for His Truth, hunger for Him. For He is the way, the truth and the life. In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Often times, the Bible is hard to understand. Bible studies can help you to grow in your knowledge and understanding of God's Word.

When you combine the characteristics of humility, hunger, and holiness and begin to study His Word in depth and passionately seek His face in prayer, then will you grow spiritually.
