Psalm 3 New Living Translation
A psalm of David, regarding the time David fled from his son Absalom.
1 O LORD, I have so many enemies; so many are against me.

2 So many are saying, "God will never rescue him!"

3 But you, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts my head high.

4 I cried out to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy mountain.

5 I lay down and slept. I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me.

6 I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side.

7 Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God!

Psalm 4
3
You can be sure of this:
The LORD has set apart the godly for himself.
The LORD will answer when I call to him.

Psalm 5
1 O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning.

2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God,
for I will never pray to anyone but you.

3 Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

7 Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house;
with deepest awe I will worship at your Temple.

11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them sing joyful praises forever. Protect them,
so all who love your name may be filled with joy.

12 For you bless the godly, O LORD, surrounding them with your shield of love.

Psalm 6
8 Go away, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my crying.

9 The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD will answer my prayer.

Psalm 7
10 God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right.

11 God is a judge who is perfectly fair. He is angry with the wicked every day.

Psalm 8
1 O LORD, our Lord, the majesty of your name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers--
the moon and the stars you have set in place--

4 what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us?

Psalm 9
3 My enemies turn away in retreat; they are overthrown and destroyed before you.

4 For you have judged in my favor; from your throne, you have judged with fairness.

9 The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you.

11 Sing praises to the LORD who reigns in Jerusalem.
Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.

12 For he who avenges murder cares for the helpless.
He does not ignore those who cry to him for help.

14 Save me, so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem's gates,
so I can rejoice that you have rescued me.

Psalm 10
1 O LORD, why do you stand so far away?
Why do you hide when I need you the most?

Psalm 11
4 But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everything closely, examining everyone on earth.

Psalm 13
5 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

6 I will sing to the LORD because he has been so good to me.

Psalm 16
8 I know the LORD is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

9 No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts his praises!
My body rests in safety.

Psalm 17
1 O LORD, hear my plea for justice. Listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from an honest heart.

6 I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.

7 Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways. You save with your strength
those who seek refuge from their enemies.

8 Guard me as the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 18
For the choir director: A psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. He sang this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul.

1 I love you, LORD; you are my strength.

2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold.

3 I will call on the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
for he saves me from my enemies.

4 The ropes of death surrounded me;
the floods of destruction swept over me.

5 The grave wrapped its ropes around me;
death itself stared me in the face.

6 But in my distress I cried out to the LORD;
yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry reached his ears.

7 Then the earth quaked and trembled;
the foundations of the mountains shook;
they quaked because of his anger.

8 Smoke poured from his nostrils;
fierce flames leaped from his mouth;
glowing coals flamed forth from him.

9 He opened the heavens and came down;
dark storm clouds were beneath his feet.

10 Mounted on a mighty angel, he flew,
soaring on the wings of the wind.

11 He shrouded himself in darkness,
veiling his approach with dense rain clouds.

12 The brilliance of his presence broke through the clouds,
raining down hail and burning coals.

13 The LORD thundered from heaven;
the Most High gave a mighty shout.

14 He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies;
his lightning flashed, and they were greatly confused.

15 Then at your command, O LORD,
at the blast of your breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen,
and the foundations of the earth were laid bare.

16 He reached down from heaven and rescued me;
he drew me out of deep waters.

17 He delivered me from my powerful enemies,
from those who hated me and were too strong for me.

18 They attacked me at a moment when I was weakest,
but the LORD upheld me.

19 He led me to a place of safety;
he rescued me because he delights in me.

30 As for God, his way is perfect.
All the LORD's promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

31 For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock?

32 God arms me with strength; he has made my way safe.

Psalm 20
1 In times of trouble, may the LORD respond to your cry.
May the God of Israel keep you safe from all harm.

2 May he send you help from his sanctuary
and strengthen you from Jerusalem.

3 May he remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings.

4 May he grant your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans.

5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory,
flying banners to honor our God. May the LORD answer all your prayers.

6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.
